Acolytes


Acolyte Instructions
 
1.         Arrive at the Church at least 10 minutes before service begins.
 
2.         Check in with the Elder on duty.
 
3.         Put on the white acolyte gown/robe making sure that they are not too big or too small.
 
4.         Position yourself at the doors in the front ready to enter at the sound of the bell.
 
5.         Do not light the Acolyte wands.
 
6.         When the bell rings enter the Chancel and walk to the front of the altar and bow.  Step up into the Chancel and light the Acolyte wand from the Eternal candle.
 
7.         If there is Holy Communion, light the altar candles.
            If there is no Holy Communion continue to # 8.
 * There are times when other candles will need to be lit also such as Advent or when there is a Baptism.  Please check with an Elder or Pastor at these times.
 
8.         Proceed to the Candelabra's at the front of the chancel.  Light them from the top down.
 
9.         Put the Acolyte wand back and sit in the front pew on the side.
 
10.        During the worship service, follow along in the service: stand, sit, sing, pray, and listen when appropriate.  Do not read other materials, sleep or pass notes back and forth to your partner.
 
11.        At the end of the worship service after the Benediction, proceed to the Sacristy and get the Acolyte wand.  Extinguish the seven candles first from the bottom to the top.  Then proceed to the front of the Altar.
 
12.        If there is Holy Communion extinguish the Altar candles and then bow and exit.
            If there is no Holy Communion bow and exit.
 
13.        Hang up the Acolyte wands and take off the vestments (robe). 
            Hang the vestments (robe) up neatly before you leave!
