Band Technique Book

St. John Band Students are using Essential Elements 2000 technique book, published by Hal Leonard. Essential Elements 2000 was written by the outstanding educational team of Dr. Tim Lautzenheiser, John Higgins, Dr. Charles Menghini, Paul Lavender, Tom Rhodes and Don Bierschenk. Book 1 includes a getting started DVD as well as an accompaniment practice CD.

Students usually complete Book 1 by the end of their first year or early in the fall of their second year when they advance to Book 2. Following completion of Book 2, students usually continue to Book 3, Essential Technique or may work in another instrument specific book.

Every effort is made to continue to challenge students to be all they can be. Weekly private lessons makes taylored learning possible. 

Additional performance opportunities are also available during weekly chapel.

Evaluation and Grading

Report cards will be issued each trimester. Grading will be based on the following:

●    Cooperative behavior and attitude

●    Responsibility (Coming prepared with needed equipment and music.)

●    Required concert attendance.

●    Preparation/Performance.

●    Problem solving.

●    Practice report.
