About Us

A Brief History:

St. John Lutheran Church was organized on this site in Burns Township in November of 1876, by about 10 farming families of the area.  Some ten years later the congregation organized a Christian Day School which it supports to this day.  The staff in the early days of the Church and school were the Pastor and Principal/teacher.

There were three Church buildings and three school buildings before the Church and school that exists today all situated on the property on the corner of Baugh street and Viking Blvd.  Since the 1970's the church and school has grown with the addition of staff and students.  Presently, St. John Lutheran Church and School has a Pastor, an Administrator and 9 full time teachers along with a support staff of aids and secretaries and many others who volunteer their help in many ways.

In June of 2002, St. John took on a 1.6 million-dollar expansion of the facility to include a Family Life Center/gymnasium, the remodeling of the existing sanctuary and the lower level of the Church.  At present there are 9 classrooms, a library, sanctuary and Family Life Center that serves both the congregation and school.  Two portable classrooms were moved on site in 2005 in preparation for expansion in the school and congregation.

If you wish to visit, please feel free to stop at any time.  If you worship with us on a Sunday, please ask to see the facility and someone would be happy to show you around.
